The Bible and Astrology Part 2

Astrology and the Bible Part 2.

We are continuing to look at Astrology quotes in the Bible.

Exodus, Chapter 12 verse 11. Passover.
11 And thus you shall eat it: you shall gird your reins, and you shall have shoes on your feet, holding staves in your hands, and you shall eat in haste: for it is the Phase (that is the Passage) of the Lord.
The Phase is the Full Moon. Nissan is the first month. The 14th of Nissan is the day before the Full Moon. This Full Moon is the 1st or 2nd Full Moon after the vernal equinox. Every Passover since happens under a Spring Full Moon. I love God referring to the Full Moon as his passage.

Exodus Chapter 13, verse 14.
14 And when thy son shall ask thee to morrow, saying:What is this? Thou shall answer him: With a strong hand did the Lord bring us forth out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.
Egypt was their 12th house; we associate the 12th with bondage.

Exodus, Chapter 15, verse 21.
21 And the Lord went before them to shew the way by day in a pillar of a cloud, and by night in a pillar of fire: that he might be their guide in their journey at both times.

This is just an interesting note.

Exodus Chapter 20 verses 4.

4 Thou shall not make to thyself a graven thing, nor the likeness of anything that is in the heavens above, or in the earth beneath, nor of those that are in the waters under the earth.
I am including some quotes that show why Bible aficionados are against our area.

Exodus Chapter 22 verse 18 & 28.
18 Wizards thou shalt not suffer to live.
28 Thou shall not speak ill of the gods, and the prince of thy people shall not curse.

Exodus Chapter 24, verse 10 & 17
10 And they saw the God of Israel: and under his feet as it were a work of sapphire stone, and as the heavens, when clear. 17 And the sight of the glory of the Lord was like a burning fire upon the top of the mount, in the eyes of the children of Israel.

Sometimes these images call up thoughts of extra terrestrials.

Exodus, Chapter 28, verses 9, 10, 11, 12, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21.
9 And thou shall take two onyx stones, and shalt grave on them the names of the children of Israel:
10 Six names on one stone, and the other six on the other, according to the order of their birth.
11 With the work of the engraver and the graving of the jeweler, thou shalt engrave them with the names of the children of Israel, set in gold and compassed about:
12 And thou shalt put in both sides of the ephod, a memorial for the children of Israel…..
17 And thou shall set in the four rows of stones: in the first row shall be a sardius stone, and a topaz, and an emerald:
18 In the second a carbuncle, a sapphire and a jasper.
19 In the third a ligurius, an agate, and an amethyst:
20 In the fourth a chrysolite, an onyx, and a beryl.
21 And they shall have the names of the children of Israel: with twelve names shall they be engraved, each stone with the name of one according to the twelve tribes.

According to Rabbi Dobin, we have the birth order of the sons matched up with the order of the signs at that time. Now we have the gems matched up with the birth order of the sons or tribes, or signs. Unfortunately, the ancient names of gems are not that easy to compare to modern names. Looking at a number of translations of Bibles and the internet, here is my best guess and it is only a guess. These would match up with the signs beginning with Taurus.

Row 1: Sardius, Topaz, Emerald
Row 2: Carbuncle or Ruby, Sapphire, Diamond
Row 3: Ligure, Agate, Amethyst
Row 4: Beryl, Onyx, Jasper

Exodus, Chapter 34, verse 29.
29 And when Moses came down from mount Sinai, he held the two tablets of the testimony, and he knew not that his face was horned from the conversation of the Lord.
This is added for interest.

In chapters 37 through 40, a number of things are made according to God’s directions: the ark of the covenant, the furnishings of the tabernacle, the alter of holocaust, etc. And in Chapter 40 it is noted that the tabernacle is to be set up and anointed on the 1st day of the 1st month. This is the first day that the crescent moon is seen, a newish moon. This sounds like a nice time to start something.

Chapter 40, verse 2, 32, 33, 34, 35, 36.
2 The first month, the first day of the month, thou shall set up the tabernacle of the testimony,
32 The cloud covered the tabernacle of the testimony, and the glory of the Lord filled it.
33 Neither could Moses go into the tabernacle of the covenant, the cloud covering all things and the majesty of the Lord shining, for the cloud had covered all.
34 If at anytime the cloud removed from the tabernacle, the children of Israel went forward by their troops:
35 If it hung over, they remained in the same place.
36 For the cloud of the Lord hung over the tabernacle by day, and a fire by night, in the sight of all the children of Israel throughout all their mansions.

Leviticus, Chapter 17, verse 14.
14 For the life of all flesh is in the blood: therefore I said to the children of Israel: You shall not eat the blood of any flesh at all, because the life of the flesh is in the blood, and whosoever eateth it, shall be cut off.

I always think of vegetarians when I read this; they are keeping the rule plus.

Leviticus Chapter 19, verse 26, 31.
26 You shall not eat with blood. You shall not divine nor observe dreams.
31 Go not aside after wizards, neither ask anything of soothsayers, to be defiled by them:
Leviticus, Chapter 20, verses 6, 27
6 The soul that shall go after magicians, and soothsayers, and shall commit fornication with them, I will set my face against that soul, and destroy it out of the midst of the people.
27 A man, or woman, in whom there is a pythonical or divining spirit, dying let them die: they shall stone them: their blood be upon them.

Quotes like this are an example of why western culture has trouble with the activities of the metaphysical community. Let’s remember that new movements in thought tend to demonize what went before them. And let’s remember a conclusion of the Vatican 2 conference that the Holy Spirit worked through the old religions as she does through the newer ones. I’m using “she” because the feminie pronoun is used in the biblical Book of Wisdom for the Holly Spirit.

Leviticus Chapter 23, verse 27. Upon the 10th day of the 7th month shall be the day of atonement, it shall be most solemn, and be called holy: and you shall afflict your souls on that day, and shall offer a holocaust to the Lord.

This is included to show again the important of the Moon and the season in Judaism.

Leviticus Chapter 26, verse 3. If you walk in my precepts, and keep my commandments, and do them, I will give you rain in due season.

There is a sensuousness in the Bible when referring to natural processes.

Numbers Chapter 2. 2 -25. Here we learn that the camps of the various tribes are assocliated with direction. Reuben is in the south, Juda in the East, Dan in the North, and Ephraim in the West. So we have Taurus in the South, Leo in the East, Scorpio in the North and Joseph’s son, Ephraim in the West. Aquarius in the West would have shown a complete view of the fixed signs, in accurate directions. Evangeline Adams calls the fixeed signs the cherubic signs. They are powerful and protective. So reference to Ephraim can be added to the flist of puzzelments. As the son of Joseph, Pisces, he’s a bit south of West.
Numbers Chapter 11, verse 24 and 25. ….and assembled seventy men of the ancients of Isreal, and made them to stand about the tabernacle. And the Lord came down in a cloud, and spoke to him, taking away the spirit that was in Moses, and giving it to the seventy men. And when the spirit had rested they prophesied, nor did they cease afterwords.
Here’s another interestding quote. These seventy were helpers for Moses.

Numbers Chapter 21, verse 8. And the Lord said to him: Make a brazen serpent, and set it up for a sign: whoever being struck shall look on it, shall live.

The Jews were having trouble with deadly snakes. So this seems to be a bit of magic to protect them.

Deuteronomy. Chapter 4, verse 19. Lest perhaps lifting up thy eyes to heaven, thou see the sun and moon , and all the stars of heaven, and being deceived by error thou adore and serve sthem, which the Lord thy god created for the service of all of the nations, that are under heaven.

In astrology we do not worship the sun, moon, and stars. They are in our service and we gratefully use them as tools.

Chapter 18, verses 10 and 11. …or that consulteth soothsayers, or observeth dreams and omens, neither let there be any wizard, Nor charmer, nor anyone that consulteth pythonic spirits, or fortune tellers, or that seeketh the truth from the dead.

Once again we have a nice list of metaphysical practices, which were the old ways. I like to look at these activities the way Carl Jung would, and see them as ways to connect with our depths.
This concludes my look at the 1st five books of the Bible. The Jews call it the Torah and Christians call it the Pentateuch, which means 5 books. These books are noted as the Law.
